Records and Assessment

A profile ('all about me') will be completed with parents shortly after they start nursery school. Your child's key person will also complete an entry profile (this is a baseline which helps us to monitor the progress and attainment of your child).

At Slade Nursery School each child has a developmental profile (Learning Journal). The key person will carefully monitor your child's progress in all areas of learning and development. They add photos and written observations to your child's learning journal. The key person  uses the learning journals to plan your child's learning activities and new experiences.

The learning journal will be shared with you at termly parents' meetings so you can discuss how your child is progressing. This is also an opportunity for you to tell us about your child's development  at home and to ask questions. You will be invited each term to look at the learning journal with your child at the beginning of a session. Children benefit greatly from  sharing them with their parents.

When children leave the school there will be a written record on your child called the Early Years Foundation Stage Report. This report will focus on how they learn ( characteristics of effective learning) and their main interests. Parents will have a copy the report along with the learning journal, which we would encourage you to share with your child's school.

If your child is going to Wood Farm Primary School the learning journal will be given to your child's teacher and they will give it to you after they have looked at.
